ATHE Level 4 Diploma in Housekeeping

Course synopsis
The hotel industry is an ever expanding industry with more business travel and the continued increase in tourism. The main work in a hotel can be divided into three parts, Food and Beverage, Front Office and Housekeeping. All are of equal importance in the smooth running of a hotel. The Housekeeping Department is responsible for the cleanliness, maintenance and general upkeep of the hotel – the rooms. The modern traveller, now being more aware of housekeeping standards expects a certain level of service during his or her stay in the hotel including a high degree of cleanliness and sanitation. The role of the Housekeeping Department makes it crucial for a hotel as rooms contribute substantially to the revenue of the hotel. A Housekeeping Executive is a professional who is responsible for maintaining the standards that the customer will expect.

Potential Jobs:

This course is suitable for Housekeeping Supervisors/Executives in Hotels, Guest Houses, Motels, Large Theatres, Cinema Hall, Cruise Liners, Airlines, Airports, office blocks and others. In effect anyone who is responsible for the cleanliness and sanitation of a building which is frequented by guests and workers. It can also be a most useful course for anyone who is intending to set up their own business in this area.

Housekeeping Executives are in great demand worldwide so there is also an opportunity to travel.

 

Housekeeping as a career:

Large places like offices, conference centres, malls, movie theatres, hotels, cruise liners to name but a few need to be kept clean and attractive, either for customers or for people to work in. This is the work of a large workforce called Housekeeping. It is responsible for the upkeep of the entire premises, internal and external. It is basically an extension of basic housekeeping multiplied hundreds of times such as a cruise liner for example or a large hotel or office block. To achieve success requires much organisation and it is here the Housekeeping Executive is important.

This course is also suitable for Assistant Housekeepers who are hopeful for progression to Housekeepers or Housekeeping Supervisors.

Qualification Level:
Level 4

Duration of Course:
One Year to include work experience

Cost:
Cost of the course will vary with training establishment. The Registration fee initially for each worker/student is £125.

Assessment:
Internal assessment will be the responsibility of the trainer. Much of the work will be practical and require observation on part of the trainer. There will be some theoretical tests to be marked internally. External moderation will be the responsibility of ATHE.

Awarding Body:
Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives and EDI (pending).
Delivery of the course: The course can be delivered in house where work experience will be an integral part or at an ATHE centre where the centre will need to arrange work experience for between 2 and 4 weeks at a workplace (in this case no payment should be involved either way)
