Course Summary
The ATHE International Diploma in Travel & Tourism aims to provide students
with a broad understanding of the operational aspects of the
international tourism industry. Students have to attend a course of
study of not less than 450 hours and undergo On the Job Training
(optional) of not less than 960 hours in an established travel agency.

Progression
We have universities including University of Wales (UWIC) and Edge Hill University that are willing to accept students onto the third year of their tourism studies degree.

Potential Jobs
This programme covers all the most important subjects in the travel and tourism industry and is therefore suitable for any career in that industry

Assessment
All students are tested on each unit at a centre. To obtain the pass students must pass all units. An assignment on a selected topic must also be completed. At the end of the course an examination based on a case study will be held at a convenient centre.

Delivery of the course
The course is taught at ATHE accredited centres worldwide.
Students will need to take the four mandatory units and for the
Advanced diploma, (Level 5) an extra four of the optional units.
For the Diploma, (Level 4) an extra two units.
For the Certificate (Level 3) no extra units.

Students need to be fluent in English unless course is undertaken in a country
where English is not the spoken or first language.

The key factors that have affected the
development of the travel and tourism industry since 1950,
the roles and structures within the industry as well as
the negative and positive effect of tourism and the
impact on a local and national scale.


Global destinations
Understand sources of reference and   research skills to provide a range of information for tourism related businesses
analyse major transport routes that link tourist generating and receiving areas worldwide.
Understand the tourism potential of different locations.


World Transport
Examine the development of the transport industry during the 20th century.
the main features and modes of transport that have helped in the development of the tourist industry.
Appreciate current issues affecting transport in the UK and Europe


Marketing and Sales Promotion
Recognise how marketing principles apply to different types of business in the tourist industry.
Understand the marketing strategies and communication strategies of travel and tourism organisations.
Recognise how sales promotion is used to promote products and services in the travel and tourism industry.


Customer Service

Analyse the characteristics of customer care and how it differs from a more tangible product or service.
