Course Summary The Postgraduate Diploma in Information Technology has been designed for students wishing to gain expert knowledge in the subject. The course covers a wide range of IT subjects, which can be viewed the unit descriptions below.

Entry Requirements A 3 year batchelors degree or 3 year diploma is the entry requirement for this course, however ATHE will consider students that are over the age of 24 and have at least four years relevant IT experience. Students must also have a reasonable level of IT academic knowedge. English level of at least IELTS 5.5
Unit Titles: Four mandatory units: Unit 1 – Operating Systems. Unit 2 – Software Engineering. Unit 3 - Database Management System. Unit 4 - Programming and Data Structure.
Plus any 2 optional units below: Unit 5 – Algorithm Analysis and Design. Unit 6 - Data Communication and Networking. Unit 7 - Software Project Management. Unit 8 - Internet Programming.
Unit Contents:
Unit 1– OPERATING SYSTEM (Mandatory) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Understand the importance of Operating System in Software Development. Be able to explain how Memory is Managed in a system. Be able to explain the structure of Processor Management. Understand techniques for Device Management.
Unit 2 – SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (Mandatory) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Understand the importance of Software Engineering approach and be able to explain the Software life cycle. Understand the significance of software Project planning in a business. Analyse the Software Requirement and specifications and Design reliable software. Understand the need of Testing before Production and implementing change
Unit 3 – DATABASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (Mandatory) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Understand the importance of Database Management System in an Organisation. Be able to analyse the different approaches to Access database through Relational Database language(SQL). Be able to design a Database , considering the need of the organisation Concurrency control and Recovery Techniques.
Unit 4 – PROGRAMMING AND DATA STRUCTURE (Mandatory) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Be able to analyse the Importance of Programming Languages Be able to develop a strategy for writing Code. Understand approaches to strategic Modularization of code. Understand how a variety of Data Structures can be implemented.
Unit 5 – ALGORITHM ANALYSIS AND DESIGN (Optional) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Understand the Preliminaries of Algorithms. Understand the Techniques of Sorting and Order Statistics. Be able to Understand Searching and Data structure for Disjoint sets. Be able to Understand the need of Graph Algorithms
Unit 6 –DATA COMMUNICATIONS AND NETWORKING (Optional) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Be able to Understand the Computer Network Architecture. Be able to Understand the basis for Data Communication Understand Data link , MAC and Network layer Design issues. Understanding Transport layer, Application layer design issues and Network Security.

Unit 8– INTERNET PROGRAMMING (Optional) On completion of this unit students will be able to: Understand the overview of Internet and Principles of Web Design. Be able to evaluate in detail, Structure of Web Page. Be able to Understand the development of a dynamic Web site. Analyse Graphical and Animation Techniques and Internet security.
